How to support trialists
Trial days can make some players nervous and anxious. Please encourage them to smile and have fun. They will not be playing in their ‘usual’ teams so things will be different, and selectors recognise that.
Several selectors will be watching the games and will be looking at:
- Technical skills both in warm up and in matches – catching with one or two hands, landing safely, and using a variety of passes including when under pressure.
- Technical awareness – do players understand the role of the position they are playing? Remember, netball is a team game.
- Game sense – use of space and awareness of movements of other players.
- Attitude and commitment. We want players to show energy and enjoyment on court and respond positively to all instructions.
Not all players, especially younger players, will demonstrate all these abilities and selectors will be looking at the balance of behaviours and skills and at potential.
There will be no coaching from anyone during the trial matches. Spectators should not coach in any instance. The matches are non-competitive. The scores are irrelevant. Please applaud all play and do not call out individual names or instructions but leave to the selectors to issue any instructions.
We ask that parents/carers always remain on site given the potential for timings to change. MJNC is only responsible for players when they are on the netball courts. Thank you for your support and cooperation. We hope everyone enjoys the day.
